Sutra 8 - "Pratyaksha Anumana Agamah Pramanani"



Sanskrit Sutra:  

प्रत्यक्षानुमानागमाः प्रमाणानि॥

Understanding the Sutra in the Context of Personal Branding  


This sutra describes the threefold means of acquiring valid knowledge:  - Pramana


1. Pratyaksha (Direct Experience / Perception) – That which is seen, felt, or personally experienced.  

2. Anumana (Inference / Logical Deduction) – That which is understood through reasoning and indirect observation.  

3. Agama (Authoritative Testimony / Established Knowledge) – That which is accepted as truth from credible sources, tradition, or experts.  


In personal branding, these three “pramanas” serve as the foundation for credibility, authenticity, and trustworthiness.

What is Pramana?  


The word Pramana (प्रमाण) comes from the Sanskrit root "prama" (प्रमा) meaning valid knowledge, certainty, or correct perception. It refers to the means of gaining accurate and reliable knowledge in any domain.  


In the context of the Yoga Sutras, pramana is the process by which we acquire true knowledge, as opposed to illusion, misconception, or mere opinion. It serves as the basis for understanding reality correctly.

Pramana in Personal Branding  


In personal branding, pramana is the foundation of credibility.
