A modern interpretation of the Yoga Sutras for crafting your unique identity.
Sanskrit Sutra - 5:
वृत्तयः पञ्चतय्यः क्लिष्टाक्लिष्टा:॥ (Vrittayah Panchatayyah Klistaklistah)
Transliteration:
Vrittayah panchatayyah klistaklistah
Poetic Essence:
The mind’s movements are fivefold in nature,
They can be pure or tainted with imperfection.
Some lead to suffering, while others bring bliss,
They shape the journey, for better or abyss.
Personal Branding Essence (Poem):
Your thoughts shape your brand—pure or clouded,
Clear intentions bring success, while doubts are shrouded.
Embrace clarity and eliminate confusion,
For your brand's success depends on its fusion.
Commentary:
Your mind is like that one friend who can’t decide if it’s an introvert or extrovert. Sometimes it’s clear, calm, and zen; other times, it’s a hurricane of doubt and confusion. In branding, your thoughts are the foundation of your message. If you’re unsure, your brand will be too. Keep your head clear—just like your phone’s memory after deleting all those unnecessary photos from 2013.
A clear, focused brand makes a massive difference. If your mind is clouded with impure thoughts (like, “I’m not good enough for this”), your brand will show it. A coach helps you take out the mental trash, get your thoughts in order, and project a consistent, authentic message.
Examples in Personal Branding:
- Resume:
Example:
Instead of writing, “Highly skilled in various office tools and software,” which is vague and tired, go for:
“Proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macros, data analysis) and Google Suite with a demonstrated ability to streamline business operations and improve efficiency by 25% in previous roles.”
Why it works: It’s specific and shows tangible results, giving hiring managers a clear picture of your expertise and value.
- Cover Letter:
Example:
Instead of the generic, “I am very interested in this position because of my skills in marketing,” try:
“Having successfully managed social media strategies for three national brands, I thrive on driving engagement through targeted campaigns. I’m excited about the opportunity to leverage my digital marketing experience to increase your company’s social media presence by 40% over the next year.”
Why it works: This goes beyond generic enthusiasm and provides a compelling reason why you’re the perfect fit for the company.
- LinkedIn Profile:
Example:
Instead of saying, “Experienced in project management,” add:
“Experienced project manager with a focus on agile methodologies and team collaboration, delivering projects on time and under budget in 5+ industries. Passionate about leading teams to exceed project goals and improve client satisfaction.”
Why it works: It’s concise, specific, and highlights your core expertise in a way that speaks directly to the value you bring.
- Blog/Personal Website:
Example:
Don’t just list achievements. Share a post titled, “How I Increased a Client’s Revenue by 30% Using SEO in 6 Months” and walk through your process. Be detailed—share your methods, insights, and challenges along the way.
Why it works: It showcases your expertise and results in a real-world, relatable way. It’s not just theory—it’s something tangible people can trust.
Self-Awareness & Expression:
This sutra teaches you to clear the mental clutter. Build your brand with clarity, not confusion. If you’re stuck in a spiral of doubt, take a deep breath, clear your head, and get back to what’s true to you!
